The iPhone 4 was launched in 2010 and everyone went crazy. Many Apple fans cued for days to be one of the first to get their hands on the new handset. The lure of multi-tasking, video calling, improved screen resolution and a faster processor was just too much, leading to estimated sales of 1.5 million units on the first day. Apart from antenna problems, which resulted in many complaints and worldwide media coverage because the phone experienced poor reception and even dropped calls when it was held in a certain way, the iPhone 4 has been a major success.
So what is in store for us when the iPhone 5 hits shelves possibly as early as 2011? One thing is for certain the antenna will be fixed and modified to avoid the previous PR debacle that was “Antennagate”. Other obvious improvements may include a slimmer chassis and higher megapixel camera.
The next iPhone could act as your electronic wallet; Apple recently patented a number of ideas and products which point in this direction. These include multiple mobile payments, fingerprint recognition, entertainment ticketing and even boarding pass applications. Essentially, you will be able to buy tickets using your iPhone and use it as a ticket. This type of technology is called ‘Near Field Communications’ and Apple has recently been recruiting from this field and buying firms which specialize in NFC software.
Reports are circulating the next iPhone will utilize an ARM’s Cortex-A9 processor which could mean speeds as high as 2GHz. There is also speculation the next incarnation will be 4G enabled meaning much faster web browsing and better reception. Currently T-mobile has a 4G network but Verizon and AT&T are only just building their own versions at the moment.
Top iPhone 5 Features
1. Radio frequency identification or RFID would be a great inclusion you could potentially use it to open your car or use it as a payment device. The potential is vast and could create a whole new industry of companies providing mobile payment services.
2. More memory the iPhone 4 was launched with a choice of 16 GB or 32 GB. Many people complained so maybe the next version will come with a hefty 64Gb.
3. Voice control functionality, with a view to being able to construct emails or text messages with your voice
4. Better video chat. At the moment the iPhone 4′s Face Time only allows you to do this over Wi-Fi it would be good to see the next generation use a cellular network and perhaps make video calls to PCs. This would be a great addition especially business users and people who are away from home.
5. There is a high probability we will see an improved camera. At the moment the iPhone 4 has a decent 5 megapixel camera with flash. But there are rumors Sony is working on an 8 megapixel camera for the next generation handset
6. Better battery life. Apple stated the iPhone 4 has 40% more battery than the 3GS so it would make sense the future version would also be better.

8. Kindle for iPhone- is not this the best combination ever? This app allows iPhone users who do not have kindle to read their books in a better format on their Smart phone. But the app is still more useful to users who have a Kindle of their own. By installing this app you can easily transfer all you Kindle books to your iPhone, and vice-versa!
9. Wattpad- you probably know about the online Wattpad community. This app brings that community on your iPhone. It has its own publishing platform, and you can view the poems, stories and novels written by bloggers and budding writers. This app is a boon for amateur writers and readers, but if you read only classics, this one is not for you.
Apple makes waves almost every time it releases a new product and has massive worldwide appeal, whatever they do with the next version it will undoubtedly be a huge success.
