iOS App Economy Soars On Christmas Day (2012), Revenues Rise ...

This holiday was a great time for the mobile industry. Following reports of a “record-breaking” 17 Million mobile devices activated on Christmas Day alone, analytics firm Distimo has announced that iOS App Store downloads increased by an impressive 87-percent on Christmas Day (2012), compared to the previous 24 days of the month.

Additionally, due to this increase in downloads, revenue rose by a whopping 70-percent across the board, suggesting that the app market is not only still growing, but that it is reaping the rewards of being one of the most-successful businesses out there this holiday season.

Of the iOS download figures the firm collected, Distimo’s data suggests that the iPad, (including Apple’s new iPad Mini), was one of the most-popular gifts given this season, with both app downloads and associated revenues rising far more than any of the other devices in Apple’s iOS family. In fact, the report specifically states that iPad apps saw a 140-percent increase in app downloads and an 83-percent jump in revenue.

Lastly, the firm analyzed which apps across all iOS App Stores in 40 countries received the most downloads — excluding those produced by Apple. To perhaps many people’s expectation, Distimo reported that the most downloaded apps were that of Google’s YouTube and Maps apps.

These were closely followed by ElfYourself by OfficeMax, Where’s My Holiday?, Skype for iPad, Subway Surfers, Flow Free, Furby, Instagram, and Emoji & Unicode Iconsrespectively.
