Samsung Galaxy S6 vs iPhone 6S: camera, display, and features ...

Both Samsung and Apple are now out with their flagship Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6S smartphones in the market. Now it’s time to compare both the smartphones head to head and decide which one is better than the other.

Apple recently introduced the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus smartphones with ‘S’ representing significant under the hood improvements and less cosmetic enhancements, and this time only an ‘S’ appeared on the back. The company’s closest rival already introduced few of the new smartphones and is apparently now preparing to blow the market next year with the release of Samsung Galaxy S7. Let’s compare the iPhone 6S with the existing Samsung Galaxy S6 and see which one is better.

Starting off with the design and build quality. Both the smartphones feature the same candy bar form factor with iPhone 6S featuring a form factor with dimensions 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm and weight 143g. It has the Aluminum unibody design but with an even more robust 7000 alloy shell to protect the smartphone from any bends.

On the other side, we have the Samsung Galaxy S6 featuring a design made out of the Gorilla Glass and Aluminum edges running around. It measures 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8 mm and weighs 138g. Both the smartphones have a premium design, but the Samsung Galaxy S6 is a fingerprint magnet taking all of the prints on the beautiful back cover as soon as you touch it.

Let’s talk about the display, and we have a 5.1-inches Super AMOLED, Corning Gorilla Glass 4 display featuring a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels at 577 PPI. The screen to body ratio for this smartphone is 70.48%.

The iPhone 6S received no change in the display quality; it is now a 4.7-inches Retina Display made out of the dual ion exchange process with a resolution of 750 x 1334 with 326 PPI. If we talk about what’s new in the iPhone 6S display this year, then Apple has added a new 3D Touch technology that helps the screen sensing the pressure applied, which is further decoded by the iOS 9 to provide shortcuts.

Big upgrades have come to the iPhone 6S this year. After ages, the camera has now been finally updated to a new 12MP iSight camera with True Tone dual-led flash. It now comes with tons of new features such as Live Photos, 4K recording, Slo-Mo, Time Lapse, and much more. If we talk about the app characteristics for this 1.22 μm pixel size camera, then we have the Face Detection, Self-timer, Back-illuminated sensor (BSI), Autofocus, Touch to focus, and Geo tagging.

On the video front, iPhone 6S can capture 4K at 30 fps, 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240fps, which is a very high frame rate when compared to the Galaxy S6. Also, the photos from the iPhone 6S are stunning and offer DSLR-level quality with exposure control and efficient, low light production. The FaceTime camera also got a new upgrade of 5MP with HDR and a Retina flash. Apple instead of adding a front facing flash, made the Retina display illuminate fully to produce the effects of a true tone flash.

Samsung Galaxy S6, on the other hand, features a 16 MP camera with Optical Image stabilization, Manual focus, Face detection, Smile detection, Digital zoom, Voice activation, Self-timer, Back-illuminated sensor (BSI), Autofocus, Touch to focus, and Geo tagging. Almost same as the iPhone 6S, but the quality of the pictures produced in iPhone 6S is better than that of S6. Video shooting capabilities in the Samsung Galaxy S6 is 4K at 30 fps, 1080p at 60 fps and 720p at 120 fps. Front facing camera is again a 5MP with HDR.

Let’s get down to the power these devices hold in them, Apple iPhone 6S features a dual-core A9 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz and a 2GB of RAM. If we look at the benchmarking scores, then we have a processor that is not only better than the iPhone 6 but also beats down the score of MacBook 2015 and iPad Air 2.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 features Exynos 7 Octa 7420 Octa-core, 2100 MHz, ARM Cortex-A57 and ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit processors with 3GB of RAM, which is apparently a lot of power. The GPU under the hood for the S6 is Mali-T760 MP8. The storage options for both the smartphones is almost identical with Apple featuring  16GB/64GB/128GB variants, and 32GB/64GB/128GB storage options on the S6.

Samsung for its Galaxy S6 offers wireless charging for 2550 mAh battery, where Apple has only one lightning connector port for the charging the 1715 mAh battery.

Getting down to the conclusion, then it is sure that the Samsung Galaxy S6 is one of the prettiest and powerful smartphones on the market, but the iPhone 6S upgrades makes it more worthy among all other devices. The only downfall we saw was the 16GB base variant that is practically useless.
